Manchester's Remembrance Sunday procession and service plans confirmed and all the road closures in place
A procession will begin this year's Remembrance Sunday commemoration in Manchester city centre before a service in St Peter's Square, it has been confirmed. Along with the rest of the nation, Manchester will fall silent at 11am to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict.
Beforehand, a procession led by the combined Lancashire Artillery Volunteers and Greater Manchester Police Band will leave John Dalton Street at 10.25am.
The civic procession will then depart from Mount Street at 10.45 am for the Cenotaph, led by the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band. They will both make their way to St Peter's Square where civic dignitaries, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders, emergency services and other uniformed organisations will be invited to pay their respects at the Cenotaph in St. Peter’s Square along with members of the public. The firing of a 105mm will mark the beginning and the end of the traditional two-minute silence.
