Manchester restaurant given glowing review from national critic just days after Michelin nod

A Manchester restaurant has received a dazzling write-up in a national newspaper, just days after being recommended by the Michelin Guide.

Higher Ground on New York Street was reviewed by food writer and restaurant critic for The Telegraph, William Sitwell, who described the food at the British bistro and bar as "absolutely, bell-ringingly delicious". Last week, the restaurant, which only opened its doors in February, was also added to the Michelin Inspectors' Favourite New Restaurants list, alongside Örme in Urmston.

The writer, who is also a regular on MasterChef UK as a quarter final judge and gave the restaurant four out of five stars, said of Higher Ground: "This is how I'd wish all restaurants would be. Doing the necessary feeding, but tickling the taste buds all the way without unnecessary flotsam and jetsam."

Higher Ground was launched by the team behind Flawd at New Islington Marina earlier this year, and was brought to life by three friends who have worked at some of the best restaurants across the world. As Sitwell notes, seasonality plays a key role in their dishes and much of their produce grown in their own garden in Cheshire, and sits alongside meat from an associated farm, hand-rolled pasta and fresh fish and seafood cooked over coal.
