"Manchester City will sign..": Romano drops big update that will excite supporters - opinion

This summer is set to be an incredibly exciting one for Manchester City who are attempting to lure one of the best names in world football to the Etihad Stadium.

But what is the latest on their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland? Fabrizio Romano reveals all.

Speaking on the newest episode of the Here We Go podcast Romano shared information on their chase for the Norwegian star and what they hope to achieve if and when they agree terms to bring him to England.

Romano said: “Manchester City will sign a midfielder in the summer, at least one midfielder. It depends on the outgoings but they will sign a new midfielder. The focus now is on Erling Haaland and then after securing the Erling Haaland deal they want to focus on a midfielder.

“I will give you one midfielder they are monitoring; they sent their scouts, more than 4 or 5 times this year and that is Matheus Nunes at Sporting. He’s a really good player, he’s playing for Portugal too. Let’s see if they will decide to sign him or another player.”

This comes after the news that Fernandinho would be leaving City behind at the end of the season.

First and foremost, the idea that City look to be confident of securing a deal for Haaland, somebody with 25 goals this term, is incredibly exciting.

However, couple that with the thought of securing Nunes’ signature as well and it looks like the Manchester club mean business over the next few months.

They are still in the hunt to win both the Premier League and Champions League, an achievement that would be closely matched by the acquisitions of Haaland and Nunes.

The latter is a glorious technician and is one of the easiest footballers on the eye to watch.
