Manchester City seek to steady ship ahead of Tottenham clash

It’s been yet another turbulent week for Manchester City. They reached the highs of turning Manchester blue in a 3-1 redemption victory over United last weekend, before falling short to Leicester in the midweek Continental Cup clash, losing on penalties.

City boss Gareth Taylor will be seeking consistency in performances ahead of the WSL game with Tottenham on Sunday. The Blues are already seven points behind leaders Chelsea with Spurs a point behind City in the table.

“We’re just trying to close that gap with Chelsea," said Taylor. "When you look at their start you have to take your hat off to them really- they’ve only dropped two points and that’s against us.

"But they’re the team to chase there's no doubt. We’re just trying to accumulate as many points as possible. It’s a different feeling when you’re at the top, the rest are chasing you.”

Of Spurs, Taylor added: “A new coach and quite a few new players as well [this season]. I think they’re adapting to a few little things and processes but in general, they’ve drawn a few games and put a few wins on the board too. They’ve made a step forward in a short period, particularly in terms of results.

“Sometimes, we don't know what’s going on behind the scenes but they have taken a step forward off the pitch as well. It's a big club, Spurs.”

This game marks the final fixture before players head off for the December international break in what has been a busy time for the English top flight.

“I have good communication with most of their international coaches but it's pretty relentless," said Taylor. "It’s important that we try and help the players.
