Manchester Christmas Markets named "most instagrammable" in UK

Manchester Christmas Markets made their big return on Friday, with record-breaking crowds in attendance for the opening weekend. And now the festive spectacular has been named the "most instagrammable" Christmas market in the UK for a second year running.

New data has revealed the most Instagram-worthy Christmas markets in the UK, with Manchester taking the top spot - ahead of the likes of Birmingham and Edinburgh. The survey looked at the volume of posts on the social media platform featuring location-specific hashtags.

With the wooden huts and twinkling lights back out across Manchester, and a host of new food and drink on offer, there are plenty of instagram moments ahead for visitors this year too. Big Santa has also made his return today, next to the light trail which is a popular spot for selfies.

The research has been published by event insurance company Protectivity. It says it has analysed over 285,000 Instagram posts featuring location-specific hashtags for 56 UK Christmas markets over the past year.

Manchester’s first-ever Christmas market took place in 1998 and has since grown in size and popularity. The event runs in its 25th anniversary year from 10th November until 21st December.

Coming in second after Manchester is Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, with 54,887 Instagram posts featuring hashtags for the Scottish Christmas
