Man Utd: 'Pretty unbelievable' Rangnick transfer plan at Old Trafford

Recent comments made by Manchester United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick are ‘pretty unbelievable’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The German tactician outlined the need for an extensive rebuild at Old Trafford over the coming months following the ‘humiliating’ 4-0 defeat at the hands of fierce rivals Liverpool earlier this month.

Speaking after the game at Anfield, Rangnick insisted that United may need to sign up to 10 new players during the summer transfer window in order to challenge their competitors’ next term.

“It is embarrassing, it is disappointing, maybe even humiliating,” said the 63-year-old. “We have to accept they (Liverpool) are six years ahead of us now.

“There will be a rebuild here. Six, seven, maybe 10 new players will come. (Liverpool) have better players than we have, and this was really reflected by the result today.”

Since succeeding former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a temporary basis back in November, Rangnick has won nine and drawn six of his 20 Premier League games at the helm.

That run has seen their chances of finishing in the top four all but end, sparking intense speculation over the futures of several members of United’s first-team squad.

Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are all expected to depart on free transfers when their contracts expire in a few months’ time, while Nemanja Matic has already announced his intention to follow suit.

Meanwhile, doubts remain over the future of multiple fringe stars such as Anthony Martial, Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly, and Jones insists he can’t remember a time when a ‘top-six club’ needed so much work so soon after their latest rebuild.
