Man Utd: Premier League star now 'very keen' to join Antony at Old Trafford

Manchester United target Martin Dubravka is ‘very keen’ for his transfer from Newcastle United to go through, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 33-year-old is believed to be the next target on manager Erik ten Hag’s wish list after the Red Devils finally agreed a fee with Ajax for winger Antony following protracted negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that United have now ‘reached an agreement in principle’ to sign Dubravka as they look to provide some cover and competition for David de Gea.

It’s claimed that Newcastle are ‘ready to accept’ an offer that includes a £5 million option-to-buy clause with the final details currently being discussed.

Romano also states that personal terms have been agreed between the Old Trafford outfit and Dubravka, who currently earns £44,000-per-week and has asked the Newcastle board to leave as he dreams of playing for Ten Hag’s charges.

The Slovakia international will compete with De Gea and Tom Heaton for a starting role between the stick should he make the switch, replacing Dean Henderson, who has joined Nottingham Forest on loan.

Dubravka had been Newcastle first-choice keeper since joining from Sparta Prague on an initial loan deal back in January 2018, making 130 appearances in all competitions.

However, Nick Pope’s arrival from Burnley this summer has pushed him down the pecking order at St. James’ Park, and Jones believes a switch to United ‘suits him better’.

He told GiveMeSport: “Ultimately, Dubravka is very keen for this to happen. I mean, why not? It’s a better job for him.

“At the moment, he’s backup goalkeeper at Newcastle, he can go and be the backup goalkeeper at Manchester United instead, it suits him better. So, I think it’s one that will probably happen.”
