Harry Kane is undoubtedly one of the best centre-forwards in the world right now.

While all the focus is on Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema et al, Kane regularly slips under the radar when we’re thinking about the best strikers around, and it’s unacceptable.

Now 29 years old, Kane is just entering his prime years, but has already achieved a number of remarkable achievements. He boasts several Premier League Golden Boot awards, has been top scorer at a World Cup and has even developed his game in recent years from someone who’s more than just a poacher.

But while Kane has spent the last several years firing them in at a rather frightening rate for club and country and continues to keep on track to smash a number of staggering goal records, there’s one thing that still crucially eludes him; silverware.

For all the goals the England international has scored and all the work he has done away from the penalty box to also become one of the best passers and creators in football right now, the age old debate is that Kane cannot be considered an all-time great while those goals aren’t firing a side to a trophy.

He’s come agonisingly close, too. Be it Tottenham’s runners up finish in the Premier League in 2015/16, their run to the Champions League final in 2019 or even reaching a semi-final and a final with England, Kane has been on the cusp of cementing his legacy on a number of occasions, but hasn’t made it stick.

To suggest those shortcomings fall entirely on his shoulders is absurd. And yes, while there are no points or trophies for coming close, to dismiss Kane’s abilities and his frightening legacy over what is always a toss up on the day is rather harsh.
