Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek is set to miss Sunday’s Merseyside derby with local rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
The Dutch midfielder, on loan from Manchester United, missed the four games prior to Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester but did return to the bench for the meeting with the Foxes, having suffered a thigh injury. However, a minor groin injury is set to keep him out of the weekend’s meeting with the Reds.
The former Ajax man is not the only midfielder missing for the Toffees this weekend, with Portuguese former Barcelona man Andre Gomes also set to not be fit enough for the weekend trip to Anfield.
"Donny van de Beek won't be available,” said Toffees boss Frank Lampard ahead of the game. “He's got a small groin injury. Andre Gomes is the same."
The news of a fresh injury setback for the 25-year-old comes a little over 24 hours after a major development at his parent club next season that could have a big effect on Van de Beek’s future at Old Trafford when his loan at Everton expires.
