Man Utd chiefs left ‘angry’ with Ralf Rangnick over specific comment made in wake of Liverpool rout

Manchester United officials are reportedly ‘angry’ with Ralf Rangnick over one of the comments he made in the wake of their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Red Devils endured a torrid evening at Anfield on Tuesday. Luis Diaz gave Liverpool an early lead and was joined on the scoresheet by Mo Salah – who hit a brace – and Sadio Mane.

The result demonstrated the gulf in class between Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp’s side. Liverpool chased every ball and easily played around their opponents, while United failed to get any hold on the match.

Gary Neville reacted to the game by calling Liverpool ‘sublime’ and United ‘a waste of space’, which pretty much sums it up.

During a tough post-match interview, Rangnick said: “It’s embarrassing, it’s completely disappointing and also humiliating. But we’ve got to accept that they’re six years ahead of us.

“When you compare that squad that Liverpool has with the one Jurgen inherited when he came six years ago – I think at the end of his first season they finished eighth.

“They had a point average of 1.6. This is roughly where we are right now with our current team so this team needs to be rebuilt.

“It’s clear and a game like today showed that even in a very drastic way that this rebuild is necessary.”

Rangnick claims up to 10 new players could arrive at Old Trafford this summer as part of the overhaul.

However, it seems club officials are not overly pleased by one of Rangnick’s statements.

According to The Telegraph, they were ‘angered’ by the length of time Rangnick said it would take to catch Liverpool.

This comment ‘didn’t go down well at the club’, because they believe a turnaround will be much quicker.

Presumably, United want to be back towards the top of the Premier League table
