Man Utd chiefs enraged by Rangnick’s ‘behind’ Liverpool claim

Manchester United bosses are reportedly angered by Ralf Rangnick’s claim that the Red Devils are “six years behind” rivals Liverpool.

Rangnick made the comments in the wake of his side’s 4-0 drubbing by Liverpool on Tuesday, which meant the aggregate score in the Premier League was 9-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The official announcement of the appointment of Erik ten Hag will have eased United woes, but The Telegraph claim the bosses were angered by Rangnick’s comments.

While Rangnick claims it will take six years to make up the gap to Liverpool, his employers are of the opinion that the club’s fortunes can be changed over a much shorter timeframe.

Rangnick said after the Liverpool defeat: “It’s embarrassing, it’s completely disappointing and also humiliating, but we’ve got to accept that they’re six years ahead of us. When you compare that squad that Liverpool has with the one that Jurgen inherited when he came six years ago I think at the end of his first season they finished eighth.
