Man Utd: £110k-a-week star 'would raise passion levels' at Old Trafford

Manchester United would ‘raise the passion levels’ by luring Everton star Jordan Pickford to Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils may have spent close to £220million in the summer window, but boss Erik ten Hag will get the opportunity welcome fresh reinforcements into his squad at the turn of the year.

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United are considering a move for Pickford as ten Hag is scouring the market for a new first choice goalkeeper.

The report suggests the Red Devils are mulling over whether to extend David De Gea’s stay at Old Trafford after entering the final 12 months of his £375,000-per-week contract, although the agreement could be lengthened by a further year.

Pickford has been on the sidelines since Everton confirmed he suffered a thigh injury during the Merseyside derby with Liverpool earlier this month.

It resulted in the 28-year-old, who has entered the final two years of his £110,000-per-week Goodison Park contract, missing a Premier League fixture for the first time since May.

Tottenham Hotspur also enquired about Pickford’s availability during the summer, but a move away from Merseyside failed to come to fruition.

Jones has doubts over whether Manchester United fans would be overjoyed if Pickford was tempted to Old Trafford.

However, the journalist believes the shot-stopper’s animated nature could be what the Red Devils need.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It doesn’t seem like he would be that popular a pick.

“But, generally, United have lacked character throughout the squad and Pickford certainly would raise those passion levels.”
