A man used his house as a 'makeshift lab' where over over 38,000 ecstacy tablets were uncovered to 'likely be sold at the Parklife Festival'.

Jian Huang, 44, was arrested after officers attended a concern for welfare call at a house on Arran Street, in Moston, on April 19 last year. The report had come in anonymously to police regarding an 'argument', with a woman and children heard shouting from inside.

Greater Manchester Police said Huang was acting 'extremely evasive' when asked questions about his female partner and children that raised concerns for their welfare. The upstairs bedrooms inside the house were then found padlocked.

But when Huang said he had no keys to these rooms, entry was forced to the internal bedroom doors, and a large amount of class A drugs, a tablet production machine and associated equipment was uncovered.

The property was being used as a 'makeshift lab', with the drug ecstasy in various stages of preparation. Approximately 38,500 ecstasy tablets were seized by officers with a street value of around £385,000.

Some were suspended in liquid, with some drying and thousands in tablets. It is believed they were being prepared for sale, likely for the Parklife Festival due to when they were recovered, police said.

Huang was jailed for nine years at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday (January 22) after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
