Man United transfers impacted as major Premier League decision explained

The latest decision by the Premier League is set to infuriate Manchester United supporters.

In a meeting between the top-flight clubs, it has been decided that the divisive Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) will remain in place for next season. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are said to be among the clubs to have voted in favour, according to The Times.

Meanwhile, United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are said to have been among the clubs that cited PSR as a reason for being 'constrained' in the transfer market. Previous PSR breaches resulted in Everton and Nottingham Forest being docked points last season while Leicester City have an ongoing case with the Premier League.

The report claims that it had been suggested that the PSR rules would be ditched from the start of next season but that has now been dropped. The meeting of the 20 Premier League clubs, which took place in London on Thursday, agreed to run any proposed replacement rules on a 'shadow' basis next season.

Prior to this, United had written to fan groups to blame PSR as a reason for a lack of signings, rise in ticket prices and redundancies. Ineos are making hundreds of redundancies this month in order to continue cutting costs to ensure that can be spent on their squad.
