I think Newcastle star needs to join club with more pressure - Man United transfer would be perfect

Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali is ready to go to a club like Manchester United where there will be "more pressure" on him, according to former AC Milan star Massimo Ambrosini.

Ambrosini believes the Italy international would be a success at Old Trafford because it would be hard to fail at a club who have been "such a disaster in the last year".

Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in the summer of 2023 but struggled to make an impact in his first season after he was handed a 10-month ban from football for breaching betting rules.

However, he has been excellent for Newcastle this season and has been an instrumental figure in the Magpies' run to next month's Carabao Cup final.

As such, the 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from St James' Park. Ambrosini feels Tonali is ready to move on and cited United as a possible landing spot.

“I think Manchester United would like to have Sandro Tonali, but they need more than just him," Ambrosini told Bet365, who offer the latest Champions League odds.

“I think when he left Milan he needed a club like Newcastle, with a soul like they have and not quite as much pressure.

“Right now, I think he is ready to go to a club with more pressure again, a club like Manchester United. It’s hard to fail at United because they have been such a disaster in the last year that all players going in won’t be able to do worse than what has come before.”
