Man United transfer news LIVE - Matheus Cunha latest, Wolves clause, 'Argentine Phil Foden' targeted

Hello, and welcome to our latest Manchester United transfer news live blog. The Manchester Evening News will keep you updated with all the reporting around the club before and during the summer window.

Matheus Cunha is said to be closing in on reaching an agreement with the Reds despite competition coming from Newcastle United. After losing 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, reports are increasingly emerging about their talisman swapping teams to work under Ruben Amorim next season.

There is reputedly a £62.5million release clause in the player's contract, which United would seemingly have to pay. Another player with a similarly set price is Liam Delap, who United are said to be hopeful of signing for £30million amid interest from Chelsea.

River Plate teenager Franco Mastantuono is another player said to be a target as, at just 17 years old, he is drawing comparisons with Phil Foden. The Reds are purportedly considering paying the player's £38 million release clause amid interest from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan.

United reportedly have some scope to pay Wolves the £62.5 million release clause for Matheus Cunha in instalments rather than upfront.

The Athletic claims that is the case after the Reds held positive talks over signing the forward. These are said to be the first steps taken to agree personal terms.

However, negotiations with Cunha's club would also be necessary to determine a payment structure. Such a deal could be similar to how United signed Joshua Zirkzee last summer when opting against triggering his release clause and staggering their payments to Bologna by paying a slightly higher transfer fee overall.
