Man United transfer news LIVE - Gianluigi Donnarumma links, Benjamin Sesko latest, West Ham reaction
Hello and welcome back to the Manchester United transfer blog on Sunday, July 27.
For those of you who stayed up overnight to watch it, you were rewarded, as the Reds continued their unbeaten start to pre-season with a 2-1 victory over West Ham in the Premier League Series. Captain Bruno Fernandes scored a brace before Jarrod Bowen pegged one back for Graham Potter's men at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium.
These matches are often less about the result but the minutes in the legs and Ruben Amorim will undoubtedly be pleased to see new signing Matheus Cunha perform so well in the US. Of course, our main focus today will be transfers and one rumour which caught fire on Saturday is that of a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
PSG's Italian goalkeeper has reportedly rejected a new contract offer and negotiations have stalled as he enters the final year of his deal. Meanwhile, the hunt for a new striker is well underway with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins both linked with the Reds.
Take a look at all the United transfer news and views as we get it below.
On Saturday, Kobbie Mainoo returned to the stadium where he announced himself to the world.
Mainoo was just 18 when he started against Arsenal at the MetLife Stadium in July 2023, and that summer preceded an outstanding breakout campaign for the Stockport-born midfielder.
During that tour of the United States, it was obvious Manchester United had a supremely talented young player on their hands. Mainoo looked unfazed playing in front of 82,500 fans and his laid-back nature endeared him to Erik ten Hag, who had no qualms about playing him in the Premier League.
