Man United told who was to blame for Viktoria Plzen goal as Ruben Amorim's role explained

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes that Andre Onana is slightly more to blame than Matthijs de Ligt for the poor goal conceded against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League but insisted that both players were likely following orders from Ruben Amorim.

United were lacklustre in the first half and found themselves behind when a pass from Onana to De Ligt was intercepted and former Derby County and Watford striker Matej Vydra scored. Fortunately for the Reds, the mistake did not cost them with substitute Rasmus Hojlund scoring twice to seal an important three points.

In his post-match interview, captain Bruno Fernandes defended both Onana and De Ligt claiming that the team does not look to blame individuals after a mistake. However, in the TNT Sports studio, Hargreaves delved deeper into the poor goal.

"Rightly so he [Fernandes] is the captain and he should do that [defend his teammates]," the pundit explained. "Trust me, when a new manager comes in, you are going to do what the new manager tells you because otherwise you are not going to play.

"This is a different position that De Ligt is taking up than maybe under [Erik] Ten Hag so there is going to be an adjustment period. Onana probably thought De Ligt was going to come to him, maybe just hesitated for a second and played a little bit on the wrong side.

"I think both people are probably at fault, Onana a little bit more but again you are going to get teething problems with the change of style and different roles." Victory in Czechia leaves United in a good position to qualify for the round of 16 automatically with two games
