Man United set to 'tussle' with Bayern Munich for free agent as Ruben Amorim performs U-turn

Manchester United moved a step closer to finishing this dreadful season on a high after a comfortable victory over Athletic Bilbao on Thursday night.

Their 7-1 aggregate triumph has ensured that United are just one match away from securing qualification to next season's Champions League. Standing in their way are Tottenham Hotspur who are also relying on the Europa League to rescue their campaign.

If United are triumphant in Bilbao, their transfer plans could change for the better with the Champions League seen as more enticing for potential targets. So with this in mind, MEN Sport has taken a closer look at two reports which could drastically affect United's summer plans.

According to the Daily Express, soon-to-be free agent Jonathan Tah is a top target for both United and Bayern Munich this summer. The 29-year-old centre-back has made a whopping 400 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen during his career but announced recently that he would be leaving them at the expiration of his contract.

The Express understands that United have already undertaken initial talks with the defender's agent Pini Zahavi over a move to Old Trafford. It is believed that Tah has a desire to play in the Premier League despite admiring Bayern.

What MEN Sport says: United can't sign players who are all teenagers or in their early 20s - there needs to be a balance. That does not mean spending big sums of money on players who are clearly experienced and have little resale value.
