Man United know '£55m asking price' for Marcus Rashford transfer replacement is set to plummet

It's been a season to forget for Manchester United fans and a baptism of fire for Ruben Amorim in his first few months in charge at Old Trafford.

Although they're still in the FA Cup and Europa League, the Portuguese head coach hasn't been able to turn United's poor season around in the Premier League, currently sitting in 15th place and just 12 points above the relegation zone. Amorim's hands have been tied - somewhat - given the Reds ongoing battle with PSR and the inability to sign new players for the head coach.

Patrick Dorgu came through the door in January - alongside youngster Ayden Heaven - while Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia headed out on loan. All three are on big wages at Old Trafford, and there's a need for United to draw back on their spending.

The recent accounts published by United shows they owe other clubs £414million in transfer fees and club debt rose to £515.7million. The club spent £10.4million in sacking Erik ten Hag and £4.1million on the departure of Dan Ashworth in December. They then splashed out a further £11million in appointing Amorim, and it's clear why they were treading carefully in the recent transfer window.

Fans had hoped to see new faces come in through the door at Old Trafford in an attempt to revitalise Amorim's squad, but the United head coach admitted his side would have to sell players before they're able to freshen up the squad.

Earlier this month, Amorim said: "Here is simple - to do something we need to sell players. We cannot do [signings] now. The window is closed. We need to focus on the games that we have, especially the next one, and then in the summer we will see."
