Manchester United may have the perfect solution to solving Ruben Amorim's summer transfer headache. United's recent financial reports only highlighted the lack of spending power the club has available at it's disposal.

The Portuguese head coach has repeatedly stressed that the club needs to sell players before reinvesting in the squad. With United 15th in the league, a long way from where the Premier League giants feel they belong, morale within the club has dropped with drastic money-saving restrictions being implemented by co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.

Many fans were excited to see who Amorim would sign in the winter transfer window, but financial constraints and PSR worries limited the club's movements in January. However, Amorim will already have drawn up a list of potential targets ready for the summer.

A player who is said to be at the top of that list is former United academy star, Angel Gomes. The 24-year-old made just ten appearances for the Reds' first team, clocking up just 46 Premier League minutes on the pitch for the club before jetting off to Lille in 2020 on a free transfer.

United missed out on a fee for Gomes five-years ago after failing to agree new terms of a contract, despite investing plenty of time into development of the Englishman. Now a fully fledged England international, a push for his signature in the summer could be a savvy bit of business by the club.

The first key point is that Gomes is out of contract at the end of this season. Throughout the winter transfer window, there have been talks about extending his future in France but the versatile midfielder looks set to leave as a free agent.
