Man United icon Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already made Erik ten Hag replacement stance clear
Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously left the door open for a return to Old Trafford.
United are currently looking for a new permanent manager after sacking Erik ten Hag on Monday. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge on an interim basis, a role Solskjaer took on when Jose Mourinho was sacked in late 2018.
Ten Hag replaced the popular Norwegian after a lengthy search for a replacement in 2022. Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick both took temporary charge of the club after Solskjaer's sacking in November 2021 following three years at the helm - with no trophies to show for his efforts.

Solskjaer has not yet returned to management after leaving United but made a rare public appearance at the Oslo Business Forum in September, where he addressed a 3,000 strong crowd, even discussing a potential return to the club.
While addressing the current situation at Old Trafford and beyond, Solskjaer was respectful towards Ten Hag, but said he'd return to United "every day of the week." He added: "If your family asks you, you say yes every day of the week. It feels wrong to talk about jobs other people have. But I say yes."
Confirming Ten Hag's sacking, a statement from the club read: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
