Man United hit with FA charge after fury during Brighton win

Manchester United have been charged for failing to control their players in an orderly manner during Tuesday night’s Premier League win over Brighton at Old Trafford.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes gave the home side their first win in four games, moving them to fourth in the table.

United’s players were in uproar after referee Peter Bankes initially handed Brighton defender Lewis Dunk only a yellow card after he grabbed Anthony Elanga’s shoulder and dragged him back in the 53rd minute.

United’s players surrounded Bankes, with goalscorer Fernandes earning a yellow card for his protests.

Bankes was advised to review the decision by the VAR and changed Dunk’s yellow to a straight red card after watching a replay on the pitchside monitor.

“Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following its Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion FC on Tuesday [15/2/22],” read a statement.

“It is alleged that Manchester United FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 53rd minute, and the club has until Monday [21/2/22] to provide a response.”
