Man United have two reasons to reject 'tempting' £35m Joshua Zirkzee transfer
Monday, December 30, appeared to be the night that Joshua Zirkzee would never recover from at Manchester United.
With just two days remaining before the January transfer window opened, Zirkzee was jeered off the pitch by United supporters as he was replaced before half-time by Ruben Amorim against Newcastle. To be clear, no individual player covered themselves in glory that night but Zirkzee was not the worst player on that pitch.
His reaction to the response from the crowd looked to have broken him. Visibly upset, he headed for the tunnel before re-emerging and watching the remainder of the game from the bench.
It was hard to see how any player would recover from that never mind a player who had struggled so much until that point. Fast forward to the end of the season and while Zirkzee has been missing since April with an injury, you have to feel that United would be foolish to accept a £35m offer for him this summer.
Corriere dello Sport understands that Inter Milan believe Zirkzee is a target for the summer to bolster their attack and would be willing to pay £35m plus bonuses for him. However, the catch is the first reason why United should reject the offer.
It is understood they would like to loan him for the entirety of next season and then pay for the forward at the end of next season. Looking solely at the money, while £35m is a good offer for Zirkzee, there is very little to be gained from allowing the forward to play next season out on loan when the cash is needed now.
There is no secret that United are in the midst of financial trouble and need to sell in order to fund a rebuild which is desperately needed. But the only benefit of agreeing to a loan with option to buy deal is that it would take Zirkzee's wage
