Man United have perfect chance to complete transfer that Ineos wanted to eradicate
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has regularly berated Manchester United for their decision to sign Casemiro in Erik ten Hag's first summer at the club.
The Reds handed the Real Madrid midfielder a whopping four-year contract after being led around the bend by Frenkie de Jong for the majority of that summer. It was the quintessential panic purchase and would ultimately leave Ten Hag with a red mark against his name.
Everyone expected Casemiro to perform well in his first season, and he did, but his drop off since has proven why Ineos were so bemused by the decision signed off by the Glazers. Upon their arrival in February last year, the British billionaire and his team set out to end these deals for players past their best but, as we all know, old habits die hard and there is now a way for United to complete another move that they love without breaking the bank.
On Saturday morning, Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller announced that he would be leaving Bavaria in the summer after a 25-year stint at the club. During that time, the 35-year-old has managed to survive several different managers with differing visions for success.
It is unclear what Muller will do next but he could be on the lookout for one last challenge in Europe before he either retires or picks up a MLS or Saudi Pro League pay check. On a short-term deal, United could be the perfect home for the shadow striker.
The Reds have lacked the right attitude in their camp for some time with Bruno Fernandes on an island when it comes to teammates matching his mentality. While his goalscoring has not been at an elite level this season, Muller could be a good addition to have in the camp on a relatively cheap wage and without spending a fortune on a fee.
