Man United given two transfer warnings for January window despite a bold summer for Ineos

It wouldn't be a proper summer transfer window at Manchester United unless there was plenty of drama - and the excitement looks set to carry over into the January window as well.

Ineos promised change when they completed their minority takeover of United in December 2023. While the following January window was technically their first in charge of the club's transfer business, this summer represented the first real chance of implementing Sir Jim Ratcliffe's vision for United.

With a new transfer dream team including Dan Ashworth, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, United spent around £180.5million on summer signings such as Leny Yoro (£52m), Manuel Ugarte (£42m), Matthijs de Ligt (£38.6m), Joshua Zirkzee (£35.7m) and Noussair Mazraoui (£12.6m). The arrivals represent a new approach for United in targeting the right players at the right prices, with the club quickly walking away from deals for the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite when it became clear Everton were demanding upwards of £70m for the centre-back.

While there is plenty of excitement about Erik ten Hag's new options, just as important was the work the club did in selling players - particularly for Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). United made close to £100m in sales from the likes of Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Willy Kambwala, Hannibal, Alvaro Fernandez, Facundo Pellistri and Donny van de Beek. Jadon Sancho has also joined Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy, drawing a line under his distracting bust-up with Ten Hag.
