Man United get transfer boost as Eriksen 'rejects new Brentford deal'

Christian Eriksen has reportedly rejected a new contract extension at Brentford and handed Manchester United and Spurs a transfer boost ahead of next season.

The Danish international suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last June but kickstarted his remarkable return to football with Brentford in January, notching a goal and four assists in 11 appearances to help keep the club in the top flight.

But Eriksen is now reportedly looking for a new challenge next campaign, having snubbed the opportunity to stay with the Bees.

The 30-year-old is eager to play Champions League football once again and will priortise a move inside the Premier League, according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

Manchester United have been monitoring Christian Eriksen's situation at Brentford and readying a swoop for the playmaker, ahead of Erik ten Hag's first transfer window at the club.

The new Red Devils boss is keen to bolster his midfield with former Ajax colleague Frenkie de Jong but would reportedly welcome Eriksen to Old Trafford on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have also been linked with their former star following his fruitful spell in west London last campaign.

Unlike Man United, Spurs are able to attract Eriksen with the draw of Champions League football, having pipped Arsenal at the post to claim fourth in the final week of the season.

Manager Antonio Conte formerly worked with the midfielder at Inter Milan and is reportedly keen on a reunion.

Tottenham have raided the free agent market so far this summer, managing to strengthen their squad with out-of-contract pair Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic.
