Man United fans share Alejandro Garnacho squad number theory after spotting training gear 'hint'

A number of Manchester United supporters are convinced that Alejandro Garnacho is set to be awarded a new squad number ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Along with several other members of the United squad, Garnacho was back at the club's Carrington training base on Saturday for the start of pre-season training. Those who featured on the international stage last month were granted an extended summer break before reporting back for pre-season.

It means those who were on international duty will now be looking to put the hard yards in on the training ground over the next few days ahead of flying out to the USA for the club's pre-season tour. United face Arsenal in their tour opener next Saturday evening.

Those who reported back to Carrington on Saturday were pictured doing some gym work, suggesting that they started their pre-season preparations with a relatively light session. The likes of Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Garnacho all participated.

Garnacho, however, was an anomaly in one sense, as he was the only player without a squad number on his training gear, suggesting that he is in line for a new number. He was originally expected to be awarded the iconic No.7 shirt this season, but that was recently snapped up by new signing Mason Mount.

At first glance, Garnacho appeared to have been joined by Facundo Pellistri in not donning a squad number, but there is a number printed on Pellistri's shorts, though it is not entirely clear what it is. Garnacho, though, was not
