Man United could reverse Erik ten Hag transfer decision for Ruben Amorim's first signing

Manchester United have identified left wing-back as an area to improve over the January transfer window, with three potential targets already identified, according to reports.

Plans will already be in place for the winter window, which is just a matter of weeks away. It will be the first transfer window for new United head coach Ruben Amorim, who will assess his squad over the coming weeks.

According to the Daily Star, United ‘want’ to sign a new left wing-back in the January window, but a lack of funds could force them to wait until the summer to make a move. The report says that three targets have been identified.

It comes after former boss Erik ten Hag opted not to sign a new natural left-back in the summer window, despite both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia missing through injury. Summer signing Noussair Mazraoui, who is naturally a right back has been the most common pick in the left-back position.

The Star adds that Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies is ‘wanted’ on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with the German giants at the end of the season. They are, however, keen to sign him to a new deal while United will also face competition from Real Madrid.

The second target is named as Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. United will, however, again face competition from Liverpool and Chelsea who are said to be ‘admirers’ of the player.

The third player named is former United man Alvaro Carreras. The 21-year-old was only sold by United in the summer, with Benfica paying a fee of around £7.5 million.
