Man United could be forced into Ollie Watkins U-turn after Benjamin Sesko transfer decision
Manchester United have shifted their focus from Ollie Watkins to Benjamin Sesko, but an interesting development may yet see them return for the Aston Villa player.
Villa's valuation of Watkins seemed to be a hurdle, with United hesitant to shell out nearly £60million for the 29-year-old. Unai Emery's team were initially unwilling to sell due to their limited attacking options, but they are now considering alternatives.
Interestingly, Villa's primary attacking target is Sesko's RB Leipzig teammate Lois Openda. Reports from Belgium suggest that the Premier League club have been contemplating a move for Openda for several months, and the interest appears to be reciprocated.
The Belgium international has netted 41 goals over two seasons with Leipzig, but could be available after the German side failed to qualify for Europe and Leipzig would only be willing to sell one of the forwards. Reports indicate that Villa will need to offload Watkins before they can strengthen their attack.
Villa's transfer window has been relatively quiet so far, with Dutch prodigy Zepiqueno Redmond being their only attacking addition. They were unable to secure permanent deals for loanees Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, leaving them with fewer attacking options.
Both Sesko and Watkins are valued by their respective clubs at around £60million. However, United seem more willing to invest that amount in a player who is over seven years younger than the England star.
Slovenian international Sesko, who celebrated his 22nd birthday in May, boasts an impressive tally of 39 goals over two seasons with Leipzig. He caught the eye of Arsenal before they opted for Viktor Gyokeres, and Newcastle United remain on alert, potentially making a move should
