Man tried to murder his mum, 73, after she got back from bingo in brutal stabbing

A man has been found guilty of attempted murder after he repeatedly stabbed his 73-year-old mother outside her home.

Marc Weaver waited for his mum to return home from a night out playing bingo with friends at around midnight on Monday, July 11 last year. As she pulled onto the driveway, he opened the car door and repeatedly stabbed her in the driver's seat, police said.

Neighbours on the street on Hope Farm Road, in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, were awoken by the sound of screams and a car horn. The first neighbour ran out to help and grappled with Weaver in a bid to save the victim.

He was bitten by the attacker. A second neighbour then tried to help but was stabbed in the leg.

Weaver fled the scene, leaving his mother and the neighbours badly injured. His mother was rushed to Aintree hospital for surgery on her critical injuries.

One of the neighbours also needed surgery, police added. An investigation revealed Weaver had taped two knives together, leaving his victims with double-puncture wounds.

The 48-year-old was arrested nearby shortly after the horrific attack. Weaver, of Cumeragh Lane, Preston, was charged with attempted murder and section 18 assault.

After an eight-day trial at Cheshire Crown Court, which concluded yesterday (July 5), he was found guilty. He has been remanded into custody.
