Man suffers 'life-changing' injuries after getting out car on M60 and being hit by lorry

A man suffered 'life-changing' injuries when he was hit by a lorry after getting out of a car on the M60, police have said. The motorway was closed for about four hours following the incident near junction 13 for Worsley at 6.20am on Thursday.

Police say the 57-year-old was taken to hospital where he continues to receive treatment. His condition is described as 'serious'.

The driver of the lorry remained at the scene and is said to be 'assisting' police with their investigation. There were huge delays in the area following the crash, with the clockwise section of the M60 closed until around 11am.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage. A GMP spokesperson said: "We're investigating a serious collision on the M60 earlier today that has left a man with life-changing injuries and caused significant travel disruption this morning.

"At around 6.20am we were called to the first of a number of reports of a lorry colliding with a man on the first lane of the M60 clockwise at around junction 13. The man – aged 57 – is understood to have got out of his car on the side of the motorway in the moments before the collision.

"He was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries and is in a serious condition as he continues to receive treatment. The driver of the lorry remained at the scene and is assisting our Serious Collision Investigation Unit with their investigation."

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 491 of September 1 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
