What Sergio Aguero said about Man City prospect Julian Alvarez in prediction

Joleon Lescott has detailed the promising conversation he had with Sergio Aguero about Manchester City signing Julian Alvarez before the Argentine scored his first Premier League goals on Wednesday night. Alvarez, 22, grabbed the fifth and sixth to help City gun down helpless Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

City signed Alvarez from River Plate for around £14million in January and the nine-cap international finally touched down in the UK this summer. However, during the early stages this season, he has been made to play second fiddle to record-breaking Erling Haaland in attack.

In the opening 45 minutes on Wednesday night, that was the case once again, but Alvarez later backed up the hat-trick hero with two goals of his own on a first Premier League start. His finishes were indicative of his promise and Aguero himself tipped the player for big things when discussing his compatriot with former City teammate Lescott.

Speaking while on BT Sport punditry duty, Lescott said: "I expected Alvarez to start out wide here and we've seen [Gabriel] Jesus operate out there. With regards to his natural position, he probably wants to be striker longer-term, but when Haaland is in the team he's going to play leading the line and there will maybe be some rotation.

"I hadn't seen much of him when the club made the acquisition. But from speaking to Sergio [Aguero] he was very encouraged and optimistic about what he can bring to the team.
