Man stabbed in chest after nightclub 'disturbance' continues to fight for life as manhunt underway

A manhunt is underway after a mass brawl in Liverpool saw three men stabbed - one of whom is now fighting for his life. The man has undergone surgery after being stabbed in the chest and remains in a critical condition, police said in an update this evening.

The search for the culprits remains ongoing after the incident which began on Victoria Street in Liverpool city centre, in the early hours of this morning (December 27).

Shortly after 5.30am, police patrols came across a 21-year-old man with stab wounds to the chest at the junction of Church Street and Whitechapel.

Merseyside Police said the men's injuries are linked to a disturbance that began in The Safe House nightclub on Victoria Street, before spilling out onto Peter Street, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Chief Superintendent Zoe Thornton, head of local policing for Liverpool, said the fight was a 'significant event' involving a large number of people.

"Clearly this is a really serious incident that took place this morning, which has left three people with knife injuries" she said. "We believe it to have taken place in a licensed premises on Victoria Street and spilled out onto Peter Street and further onto Whitechapel.

"It was quite a significant event involving a lot of people, and we are making that appeal for witnesses to come forward to us or to Crimestoppers anonymously.

"If anyone has seen any injured males, or anyone who may feel not quite right about something they have seen, we want them to speak to us.
