Man smashes off M62 after 'downing bottle of wine at lunch'
A man who consumed a bottle of wine before driving has been charged after his car ploughed into a barrier on the M62.
North West Motorway Police reported the incident took place on the M62 between Junction 8 and 7 last week after the male driver lost control of their Vauxhall Astra.
Roadside readings showed the driver blew 137 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath on the roadside. In custody, his lowest reading was 95 - almost three times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

The police force said the driver had admitted to consuming a bottle of wine with lunch before taking to the vehicle. The man has been charged with drunk driving and will appear at court at a later date.
Sharing details of the incident on social media, North West Motorway Police posted: “This driver lost control on the M62 between J8 & J7 last week. The cause was the bottle of wine he consumed with lunch.
“He blew 137 at the roadside & lowest reading in custody was 95, almost 3 times the limit of 35. The driver has been charged & will later appear in court.”
