Man scales roof of Salford University campus building in four-hour stand-off with police

A man scaled the roof of a Salford University building in a four-hour stand-off with police on Thursday (August 8).

The male, who climbed onto the roof of University House, home to the student's union and a bar, remained on the building until around 3.24pm.

Police and fire crews were first called to the incident on the university grounds at around 11.15 to a 'concern for welfare' report of a male on the roof.

Pictures seen by the Manchester Evening News showed a number of emergency services vehicles, including police cars and a fire engine, stationed in the car park below.

The man later came down following negotiations some four hours later. He has since been taken to hospital for treatment, police said.

Further details about the incident have not yet been confirmed. Salford University and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for comment.
