Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after crash between car and cyclist in south Manchester

A man has been taken to hospital in a serious condition following a crash between a car and a cyclist in south Manchester.

Emergency services descended on Palatine Road in Northenden this morning (Friday 23 June) after reports of a collision between a pedal cyclist and a car.

A 44-year-old man, who was riding the bike, was taken to hospital by paramedics from North West Ambulance Service where he remains in a stable condition.

His injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening at this stage, GMP confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He has since been released pending further investigation.

Palatine Road was closed in both directions throughout most of Friday, whilst officers from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out enquiries at the scene.

In a statement, GMP said: "Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information following a serious collision on Palatine Road, Northenden.

"At around 10.10am today (Friday 23 June 2023) officers were called to reports that a pedal cyclist had collided with a motor vehicle.

"Officers and colleagues from North West Ambulance Service attended and took the injured pedal cyclist, a 44-year-old man, to hospital where he remains in a stable condition. He has serious injuries which are believed at this time to be non-life threatening.
