Man left seriously injured after horror fall at quarry as mountain rescue teams and air ambulance scrambled to scene

A man was left seriously injured after a horror fall at a quarry in Oldham on Tuesday afternoon (August 13).

Mountain rescue teams and an air ambulance, as well as police and paramedics raced to the incident at Moorgate Quarry in Uppermill at around 2.30pm.

The man, aged in his 80s, suffered a 'fall from height' at the quarry, off Den Lane, and was rushed to hospital from the scene. His condition or nature of injuries have not yet been confirmed.

An air ambulance, as well as the HART team, incident response units and an operational commander were also dispatched to the scene of the rescue mission.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed the victim was taken to hospital by road ambulance from the scene. The area in which the victim fell has not been disclosed.

Pictures from the scene showed a number of police vehicles and ambulances in attendance, as well as Oldham mountain rescue team vehicles. An air ambulance left the scene at around 5pm.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 2.30pm today, officers responded to reports of regarding concerns for the welfare of a man at a quarry on Den Lane.

"Officers are currently in attendance with colleagues from other emergency services."
