Man killed dog walker, 35, then fled - before his mate tried to cover it up

Two men have been locked up following the 'entirely avoidable' death of a dog walker killed in a hit-and-run.

Marius Tartar died after being hit by a car on Hollin Lane in Middleton at around 9.10pm on October 31, 2021. The 35-year-old was out walking his dog to a local shop, police said.

He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries on November 13. Dylan Loasby, who was driving the car, fled the scene.

The 20-year-old did not have a driving licence and was not insured. He was arrested on November 2.

Karl Jones, the registered keeper of the car, allowed Loasby to use it knowing he had no licence, no insurance and was using false number plates. The 40-year-old asked Loasby to get rid of the plates after the hit-and-run so he would not be linked to the incident.

At Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday (August 31), Loasby, of Dunwood Park Courts, Shaw, was found guilty of causing death by careless driving and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. He was jailed for 27 months.

Jones, of Birch Hall Close, OIdham, was found guilty of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. He was locked up for 10 months.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Jack Gregory, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Loasby should not have been behind the wheel of that car, and his decisions that night resulted in the death of a man who was simply out to walk his dog.

"This was entirely avoidable and I hope that Loasby takes his time behind bars to think about his actions. Likewise, Jones, who tried to frustrate this investigation, is now rightly too behind bars.

"I hope today’s sentencing
