Man found dead in house named as alleged murderer appears in court

The identity of a 42-year-old man found dead in a house in Fallowfield has been revealed as his alleged murderer appeared in court. Stephen Owusu, 22, appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday morning during a short hearing.

He has been charged with murder after a man was found dead at a property on Beverly Road. The deceased is Thomas Murphy, court documents state.

Mr Owusu, who appeared by video link, did not enter any pleas during the hearing. He is expected to enter a plea at a further hearing in December, and a trial date was set for next year. He was remanded in custody.

Police were called to the house at about 6.40pm on Saturday. GMP said the man's family have been informed of his death, and are being supported by specialist officers.

Adjourning the case, Judge Nicholas Dean KC, Honorary Recorder of Manchester, said: "Mr Owusu, your trial, if there needs to be a trial, will take place beginning on March 20." The judge said the defendant will next appear in court on December 2.

"That is the next date on which you will appear in court, where you will be in all likelihood be asked to plead guilty or not guilty to the allegation you face," the judge added.
