Man found dead in Fallowfield house had moved to Manchester from Ireland

A man who was found dead inside a Fallowfield house had moved to Manchester from the Republic of Ireland. Thomas Murphy was found dead at a property on Beverly Road on Saturday (September 24).

The 42-year-old was named for the first time earlier today as his alleged murderer appeared in court. Mr Murphy is understood to have been living in Manchester for a number of years with his family, but frequently visited home, CorkBeo reports.

Greater Manchester Police told CorkBeo that Mr Murphy was originally from the border of County Cork and County Limerick, in Munster. He is understood to have a number of close relatives in both Ballyagran and Charleville, North Cork.

Police were called out to the house on Beverly Road at around 6.40pm on Saturday. GMP said the man's family have been informed of his death, and are being supported by specialist officers.

Stephen Owusu appeared at Manchester Crown Court this morning (Tuesday) charged with the murder of Mr Murphy, who was named in court documents. The 22-year-old, of Beverly Road, Fallowfield, appeared in court by video link.

No plea was entered this morning, with Mr Owusu expected to enter a plea at a future hearing on December 2. A trial date has been set to begin on March 20 next year if needed, while Mr Owusu has been remanded in custody.
