Man dies on train tracks in 'non-suspicious' circumstances

A man has died on the train tracks near a station in Salford.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Patricroft near Eccles at around 5.25pm last night (Monday). Multiple police vehicles were pictured stationed along Green Lane as train services were brought to a standstill.

British Transport Police have now confirmed that a man tragically died on the tracks. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner.

In a statement issued this morning, a BTP spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Patricroft station at 5.25pm yesterday (3 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Services between Manchester Victoria and Newton-Le-Willows were cancelled last night after the incident. One woman, who was stuck on the train after the incident, told the Manchester Evening News that the visibly shaken conductor announced that there had been a fatality over the tanoy.

She said: "I was on the 17:15 train from Victoria to Chester. We stopped and the guard announced we had struck someone. That was probably just after 17:20.

"The guard came on the tannoy and explained what had happened and said they were waiting for the transport police to arrive. The poor guards voice sounded really shaky when he announced what had happened.

"I can’t even imagine how the driver feels. It is so sad."
