Man dies after getting out of his car on M65

A man from Bury has died following a serious crash on the M65.

Police believe the 67-year-old was driving a Hyundai i10 and stopped on the westbound carriageway at around 5.30am this morning (March 11) and got out.

The man and his car were then struck by a Fiat Ducato van before another car, a blue Ford Fiesta, crashed into the Hyundai as well.

The Hyundai driver died at the scene, Lancashire police say. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The Fiat driver, a 30-year-old man from Darwen, and the Ford driver, a 77-year-old man, also from Darwen, were treated for minor injuries.

Police and the Highways Agency were at the scene for several hours. The road has now reopened.

Sgt Marc Glass of Lancashire’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said; “An investigation is underway to establish what happened and my thoughts are with all those involved in this tragic incident.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the stranded Hyundai to get in touch."

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log reference 0164 of March 11th.
