Man dies after crash with driver arrested over 'death by careless driving'
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing a pensioner's death by careless driving after a collision in Stockport, police revealed today.
A car collided with the pedestrian on Town Street, near the junction with Hollins Lane, in Marple Bridge at around 5.10pm on Friday, GMP said. The 70-year-old man, who hasn't been named, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
A GMP spokesman said in a statement on Saturday that sadly, he passed away after being taken to hospital.

The driver of the car, which hasn't been further described, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has since been released under investigation, the force added.
In a statement today, GMP said: "Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Stockport last night (Friday 29 December). A car collided with a pedestrian on Town Street, near the junction with Hollins Lane, at around 5.10pm.
"The pedestrian, a 70-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Despite best efforts of emergency service personnel, he sadly passed away.
"The driver of the vehicle, a 54-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and has since been released under investigation. Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision including anyone who may have assisted with first aid, or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward and help their enquiries."
