Man City walk a fine line to snatch victory at Leicester and top WSL table
You would be forgiven to see the line-up and rub your eyes in disbelief. Manchester City, who lacked heart and personality last season, and Leicester City, a side who desperately clawed their way out of the relegation zone just months ago, occupying the top two spots of the top tier. Their head-to-head on Saturday was as passionate, end-to-end and as enthralling as a derby day.
Chloe Kelly put the visitors ahead in the first 10 minutes - a tremendous effort from long range that rolled under the goalkeeper, but that didn’t spook or knock the confidence of Leicester one bit. Willie Kirk was adamant about playing a back three - a bold choice considering City’s front-three line-up of Kelly, Khadija Shaw and Mary Fowler,
Gareth Taylor’s side is chock-full of international stars, the majority of them are starters for their country. But while we saw moments of one-touch magic from the likes of Jill Roord and Yui Hasegawa, chaotic clearances and sloppy play marred much of the performance.
Leicester made 12 shots for Khiara Keating to deny - which she did, valiantly. But all too often hearts were in mouths when Leicester applied the pressure on the 19-year-old.

The ‘keeper nailed the performance, calm and collected as ever - perhaps that Sarina Wiegman call-up has blessed the youngster with extra confidence. But while she fumbled a few, got kicked in the face, and was millimetres from dispossession and devastation, you sensed she was in control and managed the game well - very Mary Earps-esque.
The lack of will and concentration to see out a dominant win with a clean sheet plagued City last season, yet it seems they have got the hang of it this
