Former Wrexham striker Jake Hyde has lifted the lid on what it is like to play against Manchester United and how much it means to face a team of such high quality.

The 33-year-old forward was one of the first high-profile signings at the Welsh club following their takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, but saw game time limited after an injury setback.

Hyde left the club this summer after the expiration of his contract, meaning he also missed out on the club's high-profile pre-season tour of the United States, including their win over a United academy side.

A year earlier, though, he had already had the chance to play against them in a behind-closed-door friendly match at Carrington, which saw Christian Eriksen net a free-kick on his first outing for the club.

Speaking about his time in North Wales, the Yeovil forward lifted the lid on the friendly match in August 2022, and what it was like facing Raphael Varane.

"That was a great experience," Hyde told RobRyanRed. "I think I played thirty minutes in the Manchester United game. A fantastic experience and something that comes with the calibre of the club Wrexham are striving to be.

"I came on, and we had a goal kick, and Varane was playing. I'm just standing there looking at him, saying, 'This guy has won the World Cup'. I won the header, and then Varane went off, and I was just like, '100 per cent record; what more can I do there?' So that was nice. To be honest, they were a cut above, but they were always going to be. It was just nice to see that in real life."
