Man City told they shouldn't change style to suit Erling Haaland

Manchester City have been told that they should not change their style of play to suit new signing Erling Haaland. The Norweigan striker, 21, signed a five-year deal at the Etihad in one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer as a player described by the City chairman as arguably the best No.9 in the world looks to test his phenomenal scoring record in the Premier League.

Haaland has been brought to Manchester to belatedly give Pep Guardiola a world-class striker and to make the squad even more primed for glory in every competition, as City will look to make a push for the Champions League, as well as hoping to retain the Premier League for the third straight year.

Haaland has already been favourited to by oddsmakers to finish the year as top scorer in the Premier League, after coming off the back of two-and-a-half years of dominance in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund. Haaland would score 62 league goals in 67 games in Germany, all before the age of 22.

Some, however, have questioned how Haaland will fit into City's playing style. A ball dominant team who like to build up play, Haaland has been seen at his best when being allowed space to attack on the counter, thriving from through balls whilst using his speed and strength to get past defenders.

Mark Lawrenson has no doubts of Haaland fitting in whilst in Manchester, but told City that they should not change their style of play to suit him - and to let him adapt to the team - even if it takes a few months.
