Man City still have room to strengthen despite incredible summer transfer window

How do you improve a team that has already won three of the last four Premier League titles? Add Erling Haaland, that's how.

Manchester City had an incredible transfer window. That would have been the case if it was only Haaland that arrived but he was joined by five more players that have refreshed and revitalised the squad. All the while the club still made a profit.

Pep Guardiola took a departure from his usual transfer strategy and significantly gave his squad a shake up, with several key players in recent years saying goodbye to the Etihad. Steps were also taken to strengthen the defence with Sergio Gomez arriving at left-back and Manuel Akanji adding more depth at centre-back.

It's difficult to see where City's squad can actually get much stronger but with the January transfer window just around the corner, the Blues will have the chance to do so if they wish. MEN Sport writers have debated what Guardiola's transfer priority should be in the winter.

The only position that looks as though it could be a bit of a concern for City in the coming months is midfield. Kalvin Phillips was brought in to replace Fernandinho but he has been sidelined for the vast majority of the campaign, frustrating Guardiola who has had to start Rodri in every game.

With Phillips' fitness a question mark, Ilkay Gundogan out of contract in the summer and Bernardo Silva still keen on a return to mainland Europe, it's easy to see why the middle of the park may soon need strengthening once again before too long.
