Man City starlet Luke Mbete passes major career milestone on loan at Bolton

Luke Mbete is 'thankful' to have grabbed his first professional goal and be playing regularly at Bolton Wanderers following a difficult start to the season.

The Manchester City academy graduate is highly rated by the club and made three appearances for Pep Guardiola's side last season. However, the arrival of Manuel Akanji in the summer opened the door for him to leave on loan in order to gain consistent playing time.

Mbete joined Championship side Huddersfield but suffered in Yorkshire as the Terries had a poor start to the season and he managed just six games before being recalled. In January he joined fellow City man Jamie Trafford on loan at promotion-chasing Bolton in League One.

Suspensions and injuries in the Bolton back line saw him come in for his debut on Saturday and he helped the team keep a clean sheet as they defeated Peterborough United 5-0. Bolton would repeat the scoreline again on Tuesday as they knocked five past MK Dons and Mbete got in on the act by heading home a well-worked corner.

Mebete is delighted to be enjoying himself again after a tough start.

"The start of the season didn't go my way but I kept my faith in God and my family have been supporting me throughout," he told Bolton's in-house media. "I'm thankful that I got my first goal today and two starts. It's [the corner routine] something that we've worked on in training and I'm just happy that it pulled through in the game.
