Man City's Phil Foden sends warning to Arsenal in 'strange' title race

Phil Foden declared that he is back to his best as Manchester City try to chase Arsenal down in the Premier League.

Foden scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Newcastle to briefly move the defending champions to within two points of the leaders. As Foden spoke to reporters after the game Arsenal had conceded inside ten seconds to Bournemouth and went 2-0 down in the game before recovering and winning the match in the 97th minute to restore their five-point advantage.

City know how difficult it will be to best Mikel Arteta's side over 38 games after seeing how well they are doing. But their task will be easier with an in-form Foden that has lost no motivation as he seeks his fifth Premier League title.

“I’m feeling back sharp now – back to my best," he said. "I just want to keep that up now, keep performing. There are big games around the corner and we have to keep pushing. We knew the quality Newcastle had.

"What was nice was the team sticking together, showing heart and determination. You can’t always play good football to win. It’s about grinding it out and working hard. I felt we did that.

"Hopefully we can kick on and go on a run. The Premier League’s been a bit strange, a lot of teams have been dropping points. We’re looking sharp and in good form and we need to keep that up.

"I always want to win and push for more. Every time you win it, it gets harder the next year. We’re facing a difficult Arsenal team who are pushing us and we are still there fighting. We’re going to go the end."
